Awesome Somerset County bird Buckman. I'm from Somerset and do most of my hunting on some public land out there. Where'd you harvest it, if you don't mind me asking?

Congrats on the bird. I agree Fever, nice looking bird. My excuse for no birdf yet is, that the birds are smarter than I am I guess. Its not from lack of trying thats for sure! The season is young, so I don't worry until the last week.

Ok,finally ran into a bird dumber than me! Been seeing the same gobbler up on a small spit of pasture for a few days. He's been on the ground early,I mean before 0600! Has had hens fly to him every morning and no way to get near him.Watched him strut for over an hour on Monday.Decent, thick beard. Yesterday I thought I'd go in the dark and get close to where he's been strutting. As it started getting light,I heard noises above.Look up and see birds above me. Unfortunately, they see me,and all light out for the next county.Looked to be all hens,I tell myself hopefully.About 5 of 6,I hear a gobble about 100 yds BEHIND me,other side of a small creek I had just crossed! I give a few soft yelps,he responds,so I stop, figuring he KNOWS where I am. Just then a bunch of crows come by and go nuts.I suspect they're giving him a hard time. They fly off,and he gobbles again.I start to run a series of soft yelps, but he cuts me off with a double gobble, then I hear wings flapping! I JUST set the box down, and he comes crashing down 15 yards away! He shakes himself like a wet dog, starts to gather himself up,sticks his neck out to gobble, and I see the "Oh CRAP" look on his face.Saw me.Of couse at that moment 2 oz of #4 was heading his way.Knocked half his lower beak off. 7 minutes past 6:00! May not have been the textbook hunt we all live for,but it's been 4 years since my last turkey. There's plenty that come hard,so I never pass on the easy ones! 21.0 lbs,10 5/8" beard, spurs right at 1" And wasn't the one I had been seeing.

buckman, I'm from Princess Anne and hunt a few places around there. Are the birds henned up or gobbling hard? I haven't been able to get home to hunt, and was just wondering.

Nice going DaveP! Being withing 15 yard of his flydown spot sounds pretty textbook to me, that's awesome. And take note Deerhunter!! There's a man knows how to take a turkey kill pic!!

Sounds like you scared his women away -- maybe that's the trick. Nice bird!

Good job dave! I'd take that hunt any day of the week. I'm designated caller for a guy who has never been tomorrow. Maybe next week will be my week. Nice bird.

Frank and I got in around 5:15 to the same property that we went to last week. Walked in a little further and set up the decoys. Heard Gobbles everywhere! This place is a gold mine, I'll tell ya! Here em on the right, left, and if front!!! We were both using our mouth calls and they worked beautifully cause at 6:30 here came two twins around the corner. They jumped on a log and broke out in full strut side by side! We both shot and here you have it! Two beautiful birds!!
