Story: Heard several gobbles early morning when we hit the hooter call. Went in and set up a couple of decoys and found a place to sit. Morning came and we noticed that there were a lot of downed trees. We had turkeys come within about 100 yards, couldn't see them. They would come and go for a while and then it went silent. We decided to slowly move beyond the downed trees and set up near a road that lead to water. There were signs of turkey everywhere!! Frank was doing most of the calling since he is the vet out of the three of us. Heard some gobbles right away but then it went silent again. We were going to move to another property when James got out his slate call. It had a different tone then Frank's and we got an answer on it right away and it was closer then any of the other turkeys had been all morning! We sat for about 6 minutes when James hit the call again. The bird was so close that it made Frank almost jump out of his pants. I thought he was going to jump up and run after the thing.... it was a good thing the turkey was over a little ridge and couldn't see him!! Within seconds the tom came around the corner and started down the path. I had my sights on him but didn't want to be selfish and kill the bird that they called in!! I waited for as long as I could and right when I decided to pull the trigger I heard Frank's gun go off. I was at the point of no return and my gun went off too. Flipped him twice. I couldn't ask for a better experience on my first time turkey hunting. Specs: 10 inch beard, 1 and 1/16 inch spur, 21.5lbs!!

I'm having a hard time believing that there are only four turkeys in the books for the amount of people on this website! Where are all the turkey's??

I agree. I haven't been able to get out for health reasons, but what's everyone else's excuse? You guys have to be killing birds.

Hi I'm new here, as I am to the eastern shore. My buddy and I partnered up saturday morning in Somerset county and he killed this double bearded bird. One beard was 8 inches and the other was 3 1/2. Small beard was like a 16 penny nail. Guesstimate on weight , 18- 19 pounds. What a morning.

Nice Gobbler! A double beard would be cool to mount. The Jake I shot had a small doublt beard, if you can call it that. I will pop a pic of it on tonight.
Where are you from Buckman?
