Congratulations to those of you who have scored! Some great photos Hunter! I just got back from my New York trip. It was very hard hunting as the weather was poor. I called in these twin Jakes on the opening morning. My buddy killed his first Spring Bird and was happy with the Jake. Both weighed 14lbs and had 5 inch beards. Never heard one hen in three days of hunting but had them come into decoys! They just weren’t talking, period! The country up there is a huge change from here on the shore but my buddy said it is very similar to western Maryland. We also ate like kings. My dad kept us fat and full. He cooked my turkey in his smoker for our last night. It was the best wild turkey I have ever had! Nothing like hunting with friends and Family!

That picture of dinner sure looks good! Sort of does remind me of western MD a bit.

well here his is took a lot longer to get on this year then i planed. was off the entire first week with a few sightings but not much in the way of working any birds. a few more days out and still nothing. so Friday the 8th made a trip out to western md and had a pretty quite morning till the haze lifted then herd this guy going off. could not tell why he was not coming any closer till i did a little waking and there was a nice little cliff between me and him. so made the long walk to get around and on top of him. got to where i thought he might come from made a few soft yelps and heard noting waited a min or so and got a little louder and bam he was close saw a hen first he had almost gotten around to my backside made some real slow movements to get turned around and he knew something was up he started to walk right away made a few loud clucks and he stopped right where i needed him about 30 yards away and took him down. now that i have one for the table i need another for the wall. was 10 1/2 beard and 1 1/8 spurs weight unknown.

Harvested this jake Saturday in the Shenandoah Mountains of Virginia were I live. I got him 300 yards from my house on my own property and he was one bad ass jake as he attacked my jake/hen decoy set up. He weighed 17 pounds witha 4 inch beard.

We haven't be doing any good at all. Last 3 Saturdays we haven't heard a single bird. This week I setup in two different spots where they normally hang out. Stayed in both spots for 45 minutes or more calling every 5 min or so. Nothing, not sure whats going on.
Congrats to all you guys that have scored.

Congrats to those who have scored! Got out this am for the first time for myself this year. Never heard a thing, other than one hen, and covered a few miles.
And of course, it had to go and rain on me. Did see some gray fox pups.

I had a doctors appointment this morning so I got to go for a couple hours. I was walking back to the truck to leave because I hadn't heard a thing in an hour and a half and I had to leave soon. I stopped for a second and I heard one. Had him come to about 70 yards but there was a hen in front of him. It was cool to at least see one I circled around and got on him two more times but he wouldn't leave his lady.
Maybe she will kick him to the curb by Saturday and I can talk him into stopping by.

Well decided since it was last week and I can't find Mr. Monster bird I saw the next nice bird that showed up was getting it. Well this guy was gobbling his head off this morning was set up where I needed to be called to him no answer called again softly no answer so I set there wondering what happened 1/2 hr not a sound was getting ready to get up and decided to sit 5 mins more and he came walking down the logging rd . 20lb's 11-1/4 in beard 1 in spurs so that makes #2 . Now onto fishing!!

Went yesterday finally had one talking to me but must of had a hen with him because he never came over for a visit. Followed him a round for a while no luck. Heard another seemed like it was a mile away. Waited almost an hour but never seemed to move closer just heard him gobble every once in a while then he stopped.
I am done for the year won't be in town Saturday. Good luck to all those you have not scored yet and congrats to those who have.
