Hate to tell you fellas, but Hannah pushed a good bit of tide up around here this weekend. I had 8-10" across the yard and around the house, which means most of the pine woods and all the marshes were under water. Gonna be a prime hatch in 7-10 days, maybe just in time for the first day of bow season!! I'll give reports of what we're finding this week when we start checking for larva. Thermacells are going to be worth their weight in gold for sika hunting.

Good. Maybe it won't be crowded, but be sure to take care of what ever larva you find!

Plane was out larvaciding this morning, but they never get 'em all. Plus, we don't do any control efforts in Blackwater on the refuge, so if you hunt there you're out of luck!

Dave, I had a feeling they would explode with the recent rains. We had a we spring, but a relatively dry summer. Thought it might be a low mosquito year in the sika woods again. Guess not!

Me and a buddy was down checking on our spots a couple of weeks ago. Could just worn tennis shoes and no bugs. But----- I told him by season start we need hip waders and bug tamers suits and therma-cell units.

Seems to happen every year, long dry summer and we think it's going to be a nice fall, then WHAM, a big tide ends it all and the bugs go nuts. Gotta love the "Land of Pleasant Living"!!

Yeah, I work for Dept Of Agriculture Mosquito Control section most of the year. We had the highest one minute landing rate count we've ever had (yes, that's what it sounds like, we stand for one minute and count how many mosquitoes land on us), at Shorters Wharf, 245/minute!! Today were 80-90/minute on Hoopers Island. Places in Fishing Bay WMA are in the hundreds/minute.
Plane has been spraying adulticide on populated areas this week, but if you're not lucky enough to be in a spot they've hit you may die on stand from blood loss. Thermacells will get a true test this year!!

Congulations oakcreek. Buddys and I was looking into a couple of small parcels of land for sale down that way a few months ago We decided to wait and see want effect the economy will do to bring some of the bigger parcels down.(probably wish-full thinking) I found 1 parcel 104 acres surrounded on three sides by Black water price at 459 thousand dollars. I willing to bet its a awesome place we just can't stomach to paid that much for swamp land.

They sprayed for gypsy moths pretty heavily when they were bad, all state lands and cost share on private, but they're in a low cycle now. Moths seem to move into an area bad for a few summers, then taper off. Haven't had much problems on the Shore for a few years now. That's a different Dof*g section from us, but they flew out of the same airport.
$459,000 for swampt to shoot a sika? That's nuts, I shoot all the sika I want for free on state and BW lands, just takes a bit of work. I wonder if folks stop to think how many big, quality hunts they could go on for the next 20 years for that amount of cash, not even considering taxes and upkeep costs?
