Dave, that does sound expensive, but I'll probably be the idiot paying that in the future. I'd like to get a piece of property where I can shoot both whitetails and sika and manage them (QDM, food plots etc...). This kind of thing is what gets me excited. Going on a bunch of hunts that I payed for to go shoot a deer that someone else did all the work on doesn't do it for me. This is probably why like you I love the public hunting we have now. It does have its frustrating moments though (idiots setting up too close etc...). For me I usually measure the quality of the hunt on what amount of hard work and time I put in to take that animal.

I agreed osprey a half million is crazy for 104 acres. If its do-able in the future the amount of money won't bother me only what I get for it.Like you Bartman I would love to do them things to.I got a house on 11 acres I bought 13 years ago in Cambridge.Back then is when I should have try to buy hunting land. The lower part of Dorchester land was dirt cheap, and still seem nuts to buy just for hunting. We were spoiled for 18 years we rented the same tract of land from Chesapeak Lumber for little money. We assumed it would always be there. Now we can still hunt it but it has gotten alot harder. No argo ,no bait ,no camera(personal choice) and you must get along with the public.I believe the biggest question effecting hunting in the future is going to be the availbility of land. If I going to spurge on somthing that what it be on since it all I want to do.

LOL, We used to lease 600+ acres in Church Creek for $1/ acre in the 70's-early 80s. I don't think the Malkus family paid much more than that when they bought it!
Last I heard,it got a little spendier!

We wasn't getting it that cheap davep. Now I know we was getting screwed at $4/ acres LOL.It ran right around $60.00 a member at lowest and the last few years at a $100.00 as it jump to $6/acres. Had one past member call me last year about trying to lease one of two parcels available last year where clubs was going to bid by aution. Both tracts a little over 100 acres with full ducks rights too.The year before one ran 15,000 other 18,000. I told thats nuts I buy or hunt public first.

Last I heard, and it's been years, was that the piece we had was going for $12/acre, for deer only. Also heard Buddy S had gotten it for $7/acre and was releasing it for $12.
We were just talking at work today about how much good goose leases cost back in the 70s. Be funny if it weren't so damn sad!

Like I said davep we were spoiled and never really look beyond next season. I have often thought if before Chesapeake sold all that land if we had made them a offer to buy it and deed full timber rights back to them if they would have sold for a real cheap price. We leased 88 acres which only around half could be timber. Timber was only thing they wanted and would lose all cost associated with ownership.Really sad alot of good times and memories on that parcel.
