Anybody getting started yet? I've got tomato seedlings sprouting inside the windowsill (early 49 day variety) and a bunch of fall raspberry plants ordered for a new plot in the yard.

Worked in a half dozen bags of sterilized manure today, and the raspberry plants came today, too, so they'll go in the ground tomorrow. Prepped four hills of manure for pumpkin seeds later as well, going all out to grow some bigguns - our crew at work (4 of us) have a biggest pumpkin contest every summer. I won't mention who won last year, but only cause I don't like to brag.

I haven't even thought about a garden. Last year, I did really well with a few different kinds of hot peppers in my pots. I'm thinking about giving up on tomatoes. That turned out to be a trainwreck; I think I got seven nasty little tomatoes on four plants. I wouldn't mind some beans, but I don't think I'd have the space to plant enough to be worthwhile...

I'm just doing hot peppers and tomatoes. We make a lot of salsa in the summer and got tired of always being out of peppers.
Also, nothing better than a tomato sandwich in the summer.

Also, nothing better than a tomato sandwich in the summer. Only good tomato is a DEAD tomato! Dead and splattered all over a pizza! ;D

The next batch of seeds I'm starting contains some tomatoes that are recommended for fresh salsas, thick red flesh without so much juice. Anxious to see how those work out.

Osprey,
How big of a pumpkin did you grow last year. I've got some "giants" growing this year & am curious to see how big yours got. It will give me a goal to surpass. ;D

I had the biggest for our group at work, only 25 lbs. We didnt' plant the Atlantic Giants though, just the Big Max (we had to keep it to a variety we could actually carry into work - some of the really big varieties can top 1,400 lbs!) which supposedly only reach a few hundred pounds at the most. Drought last year made it really hard, 2 of the 4 guys didn't have any at all by fall. My plants look really good so far this spring! And I've learned some new tricks for growing them since last year... I just had to replant my red sweet corn, however. Birds pulled up the first planting and ate the seeds off the bottom of the young plants!!!!!
