Anyone else setting, or gearing up? Just finished getting everything together and ordering a few last minute things. Seeing 3 grays yesterday, and a bunch more earlier in the week sure lit a fire under me!

Dave I still have a bunch of fur in the freezer. I sent out a bunch to be tanned. Now I 'm not sure what to do with the rest. What do you do with all your fur?

I usually only mess with beavers. If you get a nice gray I'd like to buy it from you whole. I want to mount one on a pedistal mount.

Nalley you just gave me a reason to trap one. You can have it, I just like the trapping too much. I thought about mounting one but their skin is so thin, seems like it may rip too easy.

I've still got one in the freezer from last year that is on my "To mount" list. First trap my oldest boy ever set! I saw 3 from my deer stand the other evening. Plan to start setting next week.
Also, looks like its going to be a banner year for skunks! Just saw two coming home. ;D

Just let me know when you get one. As far as thin skin, take it slow and use a scapel. Small holes are easy to repair.

Here's one thats even ugly for a possum. Released him so he can play in traffic another day! Had a gray in the first trap I set/checked this year! Of course, it was a double, and you KNOW Ol Stinky was in the other!

Yeah Fox they growl like little wolves and lunge at you. Then other times they have a look of pure calmness, almost like they could fall asleep at any time. Nice gray, I want a Coyote!

Grays were the only fur bringing any money last year. Ended around $30 last season, which must be some sort of historical high!
I remember in the late 70s early 80s you NEVER saw any roadkill: folks picked it up quick! $$$
hardcore has it right. This one wanted to eat me. Others are snoozing, and I have to wake them up. I usually give them a sharp rap on the snout, then a chest compression. Puts them out quickly, cleanly, and humanely.
I ALWAYS reset catch sites when possible. I think the disturbance and scent is a great attractant. We caught a skunk in that trap at that site (I never even pulled the stake) a little bit before, and another gray about 12' away.
Coyotes on my "to catch" list too.So is fisher. Had planned to head to Garrett Co and set for both before deer season, but never made it. Was up there at Mt Nebo and I guy I was with caught one last fall. FEROCIOUS little thing! There's a bunch of them up tehre now, and spreading fast. Heard of a few taken in western Charles as well. Matter of time.
