Looks like an old fox from all the dark color on its back... it would be very pretty to have a full body mount of it.

So far I skinned him and put him in the freezer till later this season. I like to do all my trapping and then later do my fleshing in one day. Probably stretch him and sell the pelt. I do want one mounted and he was a good size gray. But just sent out seven different species I trapped last year to have them tanned and it was almost two hundred by the time shipping was included. So don't have the money this year maybe next.

I throw them in the freezer to kill the bugs! Plus,I have more time later on. Who you selling to? I've just got back into trapping after DECADES of being away from it. Let one of my boys try a set a few weeks ago. I fought back the urge to tell him everything he was doing wrong. Next morning? Yup.You guessed it!

Just wondering if anyone has caught any coyotes in the Charles County area and whether they were male or female? My father trapped for years and still has all his gear ( traps, #3 stretchers, tail splitters etc) I was thinking about getting into since i have access to all the gear. what are buyers getting for a red or Grey fox, beaver, muskrat? there used to be a buyer years ago right on the corner of 225 close to Strauss Ave. The only tough thing is seems like you catch up all the dogs and cats in the more populated area's. My Dad used to trap so many foxes in the area where the St. Charles Town center mall is as well as down at the bottom where the bridge is on Acton Lane.

Nice solid foot hold on that gray! Last year was my first year trapping. Read alot and self taught. I don't know anyone else who traps. I get a trappers magazine and prices vary from state to state. I think grays are like $22, reds $26, coons $10, otter $70, beaver $23, muskrat $6.50, as season goes on prices go up. MD trappers convention comes to La Plata MD every summer. They have some buyers there and vendors of supplies. Never really sold much just kept for myself. More of a hobby for me but few extra bucks wouldn't hurt. Heard from James White (profesional trapper/wildlife control) some coyotes caught in pg county. Sure its a matter of time before they make it to charles. Caught a few dogs this year and last. One foothold trap this year and body grip last. Don't like to talk about the body grip catch.

This trapping thing sounds fun. I got so many fox down by me and coons. Also those dam beavers. They block up the culvert on my rd so bad it floods the rd out had to TRAP five this yr. Should have kept the pelts. A Andy we need to get together and start this up you game???

I've been to the convention in LaPlata the last few years. This year seemed poor compared to 05,but the seminars are always good.
As far as shooting beavers,it's a no-no (meaning, don't go posting about it ;D)
I'm going to try snaring them this year.I think season opens Saturday.
According to DNR there have been confirmed coyote kills in ALL MD counties.
Was one in the paper a few years ago from Nanjemoy, and I've heard of another from a pretty reliable source taken there as well.
Starting to be alot of them up in Garrett Co.May take a road trip once I'm done with deer.

Water trapping is my favorite. Got a few good spots in mind for this year. Have to post the pics from my first two beavers from last year, one XXXL and one XL beaver. You can't shoot em even if they are in your trap, have to drown them or hit them on the head. Body grip traps work well because it instantly breaks their neck. You don't want to mess with a sixty five pound angry beaver. If you buy some traps I'll tell you how to set them, no expert but seems beavers who havn't been around trappers are easier to catch.
This years convention didn't have as much attendance, but I still had a good time. So hot in the summer maybe spring would have a better turn out?

JARHEAD, i use to do it a long time ago, it is a blast but it is alot of work. you HAVE to check the traps everyday. i had a guy i used to go with that set traps and didn't check them for two days, got back to them and found only feet in them. i guess the foxes chewed they feet off to get away. made me sick. and when i realized i couldn't check them everyday i quit doing it..
