Anybody else do much foraging for wild berries? The blackcaps (black raspberries) are on strong now around me - I even transplanted some into a bed in my yard last year and they are loaded!! I'm eating a big bowl of them right now. ;D Blackberries and wineberries will be ready over the next few weeks. Best thing about this time of year.

I pick blackberries around an old ball field near my house, got gallons of them last year. Were four distinctly different varieties growing there!

I used to walk back in the woods last year to pick blackberries during my lunch break. I would get about a half gallon a trip and had purple fingers the rest of the day. Usually ate half of them while driving around before I even got home.

The only bad thing about berry picking is - CHIGGERS!!! Whatch out and spray good with permethrin, worst cases of chiggers I've ever got have all been while picking blackberries, perfect time of year for them...

I usually pick wineberries which grow at my grandma's place on the edge of the woods. I don't think that there is a better tasting berry. I think that they are going to be ready in a week or less. I can't wait until then. ;D

What are wine berrries? I have some berries growing on the power lines behind my property I noticed yesterday. Look just like blackberries only the berries are a little smaller.

Wineberries are a type of raspberry, smaller but still red. Very soft flesh on the berries, and full of juice. They are great for making wine because of all the juice. Very sweet.

Hit the blackberries pretty hard this evening. I'm bleeding EVERYWHERE!

Blackberries around here are bad this year, not enough rain. Try wearing old hip waders when you go picking - I bulldozed into the berry thickets today, never got a scratch thanks to the old leaky Pro-lines!!

It's usually my top half that bears the brunt of the brambles!
Got smart today: Sent the kids in!

Got smart today: Sent the kids in! I'll take the bleeding, easier and cheaper in the long run, plus you don't have to share the berries! ;D
