We are planning another trip to Blackwater in October (Saturday). If anyone else has a Bowhunting Permit for Blackwater and would like to meet up with us we would love to have you along. It's always great to meet other hunters and share in the excitement of the hunt.
We plan on hunting all day, but still have to work out some of the details. I will keep you posted on the trip.
P.S. - No following us to our super secret sika stag spot... ;D ;D

I'm in, can't wait to hunt blackwater. I've heard so many good things about it. If anyone is curious that day will be at the PEAK of the sika rut. One more reson to stay on stand all day.

Hardcorehunter and I will be trying some of the NEW Downwind Scent Foam - Sika Foam that weekend. It will be the peak of the Sika Rut so we should do well.
Downwind Scents also make Foam Scent for Whitetails which we will also be using this weekend. We'll let everyone know how well it does.

Hate to rain on the parade, but better check your regs. Blackwater archery hunt is CLOSED that day, they have their firearms youth hunt scheduled for October 14th.
Archery is open at BWNWR only on the dates of Sep 30 - Oct 13, Oct 16 - 18, Oct 23-25, Oct 30 - Nov 18, and Jan 13-31.

Welcome, Osprey.
Thanks for the news about blackwater. I checked myself & you are right, without a doubt. I read it in black & white. Not so bad my buddy is getting married that day after all.

No problem, hate to see anybody make the drive down for nothing. I'm taking a 10 year old kid hunting down there that day, trying for his first deer. Stupid squirt doesn't even want a sika - he wants all the meat from a big whitetail!!! Go during the week, you'll have much less people anyway. If you can stand the rain they're calling for, the next few days should be good. High tides from the moon, fall equinox and NE winds should have them pushed out of the marshes and onto the high ground. I've got the kayak loaded to go hit one of my spots this afternoon, wind should even have the bugs knocked off a bit

Thanks for the info. For the few guys that planned on going (I was not one of them), it is about a 2.5 hour drive each way. They would have been pretty upset after that long ride down!!!!!

Picked up a card along with some apple foam at Shore Sportsman today, always glad to see a site with sika sections. Thought I'd try the foam today. Never had any luck with sika scents, but they're curious buggers and LOVE apples, so I'll give that a try. Don't hunt BW much anymore myself, although I have in the past. I hate that you can't scout in the offseason down there, so I stick to state lands where I can wander all winter and learn things.

Well glad to see you on the site - Welcome
What do you think of Assateague Island? We have hunted there before with no luck. We might think about going down there seeing that the next three weekends at BW are closed to archery.

Assategue has some good hunting, just get away from everybody. A 4wd with beach stickers definitely helps. They have some different blackpowder seasons than MD, too, I think it's normally a whole week before or after our normal 3 day BP season, and the sika are hot then. Last year during that hunt I got some good pics of two stags fighting when I came through the State Park section on my way home - pick up a Maryland Deer Guide, Allan ran them in color as a center spread.
Keep watch on the state section of the Island down there, they've proposed opening it to 12 bowhunters each day, beginning in November, and it should be GREAT. I haven't paid too much attention to it 'cause I'm leaving a few days before it's scheduled to begin to head west to North Dakota for 6 weeks.
