We here at Buckwild Adventures are new to Sika Deer Hunting. We got hooked on it 2years back when I lived over on the Eastern Shore and found out about Assateage Island and Blackwater Refuge. Theres nothing else like it. We have picked-up a few tips here and there and have obtained some archery permits for Blackwater this year, but would still love to here from anyone that has taken a Sika. Any Tips? We are heading to Blackwater maybe 5-7 times this year. If anyone else has a permit maybe we can get together for a weekend hunt. BUCKWILD STYLE!!!

I had a four point stag almost run me over at asseteuge last year. Other than that I have only seen them from a distance. I have my permit for blackwater and plan a little bow hunting action. Baiting over corn I hear works well but only on private land. Illegal on public. Keep yourself near marsh and they will come.

I cant wait till I get to Blackwater!!! Now dont get me wrong here, I love a nice big 12pt whitetail just as much, but theres just something about going to a new place where even the trees are diff. and hunting something new and unfamiliar to hunt.
The only thing I HATE...HATE...HATE.. are the MONSTER SOUL DRAINING Mosquitoes..They will KILL you!!
So dont go hunting for Sika deer without a Bug suit and a ThermaCell, and another bug suit to go over the first one.
;D ;D ;D ;D

BuckMaster,
There's nothing I HATE MORE THAN THOSE SKETERS BUZZING IN MY EAR. Went down to Assateague one time & they were swarming me by the thousands in the middle of a torrential rain!

Hey, Hardcore
I would love to have a sika in front of me! Too bad you weren't able to draw your bow in time.

To be honest had my bow next to me and was filming wild horses. Talk about being unperpared. I learned a valuable lesson. I also got bit by mosquites hunting sika's at Taylor's island the first week of JANUARY! Be warned they show no mercy.

That would be the largest sika ever taken in MD - that picture is of one from Japan (their native land).

well i know Andy Murphy's dad shot one a few years ago that was either a record book or somethign and while when you look at it it doesn't look huge, knowing what i know about them (very little) it is a monster. i think it was a 3 by 3 and it is a nice one.. from what i understand they are way better eating than whitetail and i love me some whitetail... so kill a bunch, hopfully i will have my perit at the house and then it will take a little crying and whinning so i can go with the hit squad and try and get one myself.

Good luck on that permit being there. I think I am going to get up at 2:30 to leave my house. It is about a 2 hour drive & I am going to hunt all day & arrive home around 9 or 10 tomorrow night. Have to get some rest to go to the Redskins game on Sunday. I think you are right. To my knowledge, a 3x3 is a trophy sika around here. I will be happy with anything.

I've hunted them and a cow(female) would be a trophy cause their so hard to hunt. Its almost like rabbit hunting more than deer hunting.

The best way I have found to post pics is to do this: Go to www.photobucket.com and register, IT'S FREE Then you can upload any pics you want from your computer. Once uploaded you will see three lines of code under each photo and all you have to do is copy the last one labled IMG: and paste that line of text in you message window. Let me know if you need more help.

When you get two sets of img(image) put that URL in between them like a sandwich. It took me a while to get it right.
