I was just wondering if anyone knew of trail cameras spooking deer with the flash. I noticed that a lot of my pics show deer runnig from the cam at night when the flash goes off. Most of the deer ended up coming back to feed, but Im not sure if maybe some deer will avoid the area because of the cam?

I'm not sure if they do or not. I notice the same thing in some of the pics from my trail cam. My thought is that if there is no human scent in the air that the deer should feel no real pressure from the cams. In a way they are just like motion lights on a house that deer don't really pay too much attention too. At least I hope not because the cams really are pretty cool.

That is a heavily debated question. Even if the camera is scent free it stands out as something that is not supposed to be in the woods. Some deer's stomachs override there instinct. I think every deer is different and the older and smarter they get, the less you may see them. They sell infared, flashless trail cams. If a flash went off in my face in the middle of the night I'd be freaked out.

I watched a spike jump about 5 feet in the air when my flash went off on him , he jumped back and just looked around for a minute then proceeded on his way right back by it. I was about to fall out of the stand laughing .

I wonder what a larger, more mature deer would have done? There are some pics of bucks fighting, not paying any attention to the camera. I think it may be different every time, depending on the situation.

On big bucks I have gotten pictures of, it is usually only one. The smaller ones might come back and get a second or third picture taken, but mostly one pic and there gone. Maybe spooked, maybe just passin thru.

I dont think they spook deer at all. I have food plot pictures of monster bucks standing 15 feet from the camera with the flash going off twice every minute for over 20 minutes. Some of the time they are looking straight at it. I have sat in my stand watching the camera flash on doe and small and medium bucks with no affect on them at all. I have some pictures of deer checking out the camera less than a foot from it.
