Thanks for the advice. I will keep after them and hopefully one day i will have one come in. Sure gets the blood boiling when you are set up and hear them gobbling though.. Have a lot of turkey behind my house and can roost them every night but I do not know if they just have a lot of hens with them or what. sure seems like there are alot of birds back there though.. just have to stay after them i guess...

Big Fox,
I,m glad you were able to read my message! Hey listen , from my expierance to is sometimes they are henned up the first week or two! Then when big tom is done mating, the inferior turkeys will be braking off from the flock to see if they can get on some of the action! This a good time to call in one of these toms because he will be by himself! I have killed 2 turkeys in the 2nd week of the season! and they were by themselves , when a week earlier i couln,t get anything to come in.I lot of times i,ll only call once or twice(soft tone calling), and then shutup and make that turkey fire up thinking that the hen is leaving. Sometimes i,ll back up 30 yards call, then back up 30 again! He might think the hen is leaving and bolt right on in , so be ready!! The worst is sometimes they will come in totally silent, i,ve spooked a few like this thinking nothing was coming in.I usually will try to work a bird about an hour and half , depending on the situation , if nothing is happening then move. Try using a locater call or real loud yelping every 100 yards or so, this has also worked for me. Be ready because you might stumble right on one like this , make sure you have an open view and a large tree to set up on when locating because he might be within a 100 yards or less!

Bigfox, We would set up in the morning and use our hats to make it sound like birds flying off their roost. We would then do some calling to the toms and would get them to gobble. They seemed to hang up until my friend used a gobbler. It is a call similar to a feeder duck. You shake it and it sounds like a gobble. We make it sound like there is some talking going on between a couple of gobblers and a couple of hens. This made them come. Try that and different mouth and friction calls. You just need to mix it up a bit. You will figure it out!

been a few times and seen some. Never close enough to shoot. Of course during deer season I see plenty close enough to strangle.

Definitely not me. Been after them for about 9 years with no luck. I think this might change this spring though I've got a good property for them now. They've been eating all my corn all fall. Time for payback.

Well I bought a turkey hunt at the auction for the DU benefit this past weekend, so maybe I can buy a turkey... seems my eastern shore connection doesn't want to hunt with me anymore... to busy putting the Deer Hunter on Sika deer I guess.

Don't worry Fox, we'll go turkey hunting. We should hook up with Bart, if he's talking about the place I think he is (near the airport???) he's loaded with birds.

Well I will hold you to that. If this turkey hunt pans out I may just have to get a sika guide and go for the "EASY" score.... I talk now only to be disappointed later.....

Don't worry Big Guy; If you don't have any luck; just give your old buddy hairy head a call. He slays a few turkeys every day at lunch. Whoops, those would be sandwiches..LOL. Good luck though; I jumped up a few yesterday when I was shed hunting. I will let that area rest for now. I hope to see some good pix come April. Hopefully I will be let out since I have another kid coming next month. (Timed it perfectly; in between seasons!)

It's funning how Lamont compton never even killed a turkey, but knows all the details. If you want advise from a compton you better talk to brent. And by the way choot, as soon as I sit at the lunch table with my turkey sandwich Big Fox gobbles it up and Jarhead licks the leftovers off the table. It's easy to lose weight when you have to hog fighting over you food.

Very Good Hairy Head, I would be glad to receive a guided hunt with you since you are the turkey slayer! Let me guess, will we be headed to Mud Ducks? I am sure you have done your scouting ;D
