Was out last Saturday and saw 4 males but no hens. I think they are starting to nest up in Southwestern Charles County.

They're nesting down in central VA. I'd imagine they're starting it up in MD too.

Let me tell you that bird is crazy. Driving down the road this morning I see a hen on the side of the road laying down, head up. Thinking she was hit by a car a did a uturn and pulled up to her. Had another car behind me do the same thing. We get out and greet each other than walk up to the hen. Get about five yards away when she jumps up and runs acrss 4 lanes of traffic!!! She wasn't hurt at all. While talking to the guy, which by the way is a taxidermist and has the deer hunters goose he is working on(small world huh), busco drives by and I point to the bird laid up in the median strip. Didn't have a camera but I thought for sure she was gonna get smacked by a car. I came back around ten and she was STILL THERE! I was on the other side of the highway and she started running down the highway. Wierd. I could only think she got peppered by a hunter this morning and was disorientad and couldn't fly. Or she laid a nest of eggs way too close to the highway. It was pretty neat encounter though.

I was at a Quails Unlimited Banquet dinner on Friday night and I spoke to another guy I met once who saw the same hen at the same place a day earlier! He said there was a dead turkey fifty yards down from that one in the median. WIERD! Great banquet, nice people but the net worth of everyone added up in the room was in the billions for sure. Or damned close. Made me realize just how po I is. LOL. I look for that bird tomorrow.
