Are turkey like deer in the way they taste? I don't mean do they taste like deer, I mean like Buck and Doe. I know a doe will usually taste less game and be more tender than an old rutted out buck. Does the same go for turkeys? Would a younger Jake taste better than an old tom?

A young jake will normally be more tender, don't know about hens. Hard to tell how old they are too, not to mention you can't shoot them in the spirng. But just like deer, it's more in the field care, prep and cooking method than anything.

I think an old Tom is definitely tougher than a Jake. That many more years of flying, strutting, fighting and *#%!ing are sure to be the culprits!

I don't have any problem eating a buck vs. a doe. Like Osprey said, I think it is all in the field care & preparation.

Deep frier makes em all taste good! Jakes are better table fare and toms are better story/mount fare.

We usually rub on a LOT of lard, inside and out, cook it 6 or 7 hours on as low a heat as possible, covered with foil, then take it off at the end, increasing heat to brown it.
