The SoMD Chapter is having their "Annual Hunting Heritage Banquet and Art Auction" on St. Patricks Day, Saturday March 17th. 6 pm - 11pm, Middleton Hall, Waldorf MD. I've been going there for the past 8+ years and it is a blast.
Usually my family, girlfriend, and buddies come as their is a little bit for everyone: quality gun raffles as well as live and silent auctions. 15+ guns are given away and I've won 3 so far (My Encore was the best steal). The live auction includes NWTF prints, bronze statues, quilts, furniture, specialty guns, etc. The silent auction includes knives, jackets, backpacks, prints, watches, etc. The list is endless. Things for women are also highlighted since NWTF is big on "Women in the Outdoors." They usually have their own special raffle and most every lady takes something home. JAKES (young members of the audience) are also showcased with their seperate raffle and many of them help during the live auction by handing out prizes.
All in all, the event is aimed at raising money for Turkey conservation, Hunting education (i.e JAKES day, calling contests, and Women in the Outdoors day), and land management right here in Southern Maryland. There is good food, good drink, and a ton of local hunters (usually ~200 people come). Contact the chapter President, Bobby Boarman, for more information. There are many things like group specials on raffle tickets he can provide more data on. His contact information is 301-259-2830.
Hope this doesn't sound too much like a commercial. I just want to let people know about this great group and fun times to be had.
