I had a monster at 20 yards last night on public. I went to draw on him and he put his head up. I held at 1/4 draw for about 15 seconds and he put his head back down. When I let down the arrow came off the knock and made a noise. He looked back at me and I didn't move. After about 1 minute he walked behind a tree and I came to full draw. He must have winded me or caught some movement b/c he took off. I literally was sick to my stomach. Couldn't even eat dinner last night. I had the nauseous taste in the back of my mouth. I'm still second guessing myself. I'm going to be back after him this Wed. afternoon though. Maybe he'll screw up again. From what I could tell, he was a main frame 8 about 20+wide with real long tines.

I've spent a few sleepless nights myself after such situations. Bigger the buck, the longer I would fret. Hope you meet up with him again.

On Saturday I sat all morning and saw nothing. My son and I moved to a different spot in the afternoon. As he was putting up his stand a 6 point was watching him but he couldn't get a shot. In the new spot we saw 4 bucks. I had a small one walk 20 yards past me. He started out about 70 yards away but the grunt call had him come right to me. I took the shot and he jumped the string right over his back. Close enough to give him a hair cut. He was not a big buck, but to be honest I am not after big bucks just meat on the table. I cant cook an antler roast. The others were really nice bucks. This was on public land and with gun season starting soon I Know it will be that much harder to get one to come close. I second guess myself even when its a doe and still get no sleep.

Dave, who do you think is filming me opening day? Besides, it is not like I got married during the rut or the real good part of hunting season.

That happened to me six years ago. Big buck came into my corn pile at first light I drew on him and he stopped behing a small holly tree. I held for as long as my arms could nd when letting off the draw arrow fell off the rest and made a doink. I had never shot a buck at that time so I felt sick for a while. But I took my first buck three weeks later during shotgun.
