Went out friday night to get permission to hunt some land in an adjacent county but got turned down.... was kinda bummed out about it.... buddy of mine called me up and persuaded me to go out saturday morning with him....
well saturday morning came early.... and I was out there before daylight trying to keep warm in my stand.... hadnt seen all morning and decided to just climb down out of the stand and wait for my buddy to get done, I looked down to grab my string to let my bow down and I saw 3 does making their way around an old loggin road.... kept watching them and ranging them but they stayed just out of bow range the whole way around..... never got a shot....
went in for lunch and talked about strategy for that evening and we decided to hunt the base of a hill in the edge of a swamp.... luck turns out, everything fell into place as it was supposed to!!! started hearing some rumbling in the underbrush and then saw it.... it was a big bodied deer heading down the hill just to the right of us... I watched as it walked out in the swamp and then I saw antlers.... I hit a primos can several times and turned him in our direction toward our decoy... not feeling up to hunting that evening, I let my buddy have the shot... 17 yd liver shot..... didnt run but maybe 20 yds..... was a little 7 point
the weekend was turning out better.....
went out yesterday morning kinda pumped from the night before and had to cut the hunt early due to ice and rain.... went back in to warm up and check the weather.... the front was extended over indiana and still more coming.... so I changed into warm clothes and put on a rain suit and went back out.... sat until 5:00 when I started hearing what sounded like cattle coming through the woods.... grabbed my bow and got ready....
saw a doe jump a fence that leads out into a swamp and she wasnt letting grass grow under her.... then I saw what she was running from.... this massive, heavy bodied buck jumped the fence right where the doe had and stopped.... I had a decoy 20 yds in front of me with estrous on it.... I hit the primos can several times and he had forgot all about the doe he was chasing and turned my direction and started coming fast..... he crossed a ditchline and was about 5 yds from the decoy.... I let him have it..... double lung shot..... he didnt make it 30 yds and piled up.....
Boy did my weekend change from being down to an all time adrenaline high in a matter of 48 hours....
