my mom just bought a house in st. leonard(its in lower calvert county) we have a small patch of woods behind our house. mainly just the side of of a ravine heading down to a creek. the side of the hill is mountain laurel and up towards the top near the house are oak trees. im planning on heading down today and putting out a feeder.
any other tips for hunting neighborhood deer. i've never done it before and not sure what to expect.
thanks

How much land is it? There are restrictions firing a weapon in a neighborhood. If it is shot then runs onto adjacent property, then you have to ask the owner to track/retrieve your game (or so I believe) You have the right to retrieve your game, however its just like going onto someones property without permission.

I do a fair bit of hunting in small patches of wood , i recommend a corn pile an a trail cam or 2 to find out whats there . all the hunting on the propertys i hunt are bow only so a good shot is a must . as far as recovering game i haven't had any problems with neighbors but if its at night i would let them know what your doing so they don't flip out and doing that is a opertonity to hunt there land also. But all of the hunting i do on these places have payed off well . killed 3 big does out of a small piece this year . good luck.

its about a acre of woods and i know both of the neighbors and one of them gave me permission to hunt behind their house as well. i went their today and found a break in the mountain laurel where the ridge gets real steep and everything narrows down to one trail at the begining of the trail and the mountain laurel is a chesnut oak tree. that tree also has a fork about twelve feet off that would be the perfect spot for a treestand. i put some corn out right next to the oak tree just off the trail so hopefully something will happen there. we will find out in the next few weeks

I hunt a small patch behind my house, it sounds like about the same size. I try to always enter from the down wind side and never go in the woods deep, you'll push them right out the other side. I set up on the edge and since the wind in winter time is predominantly out of the north or west i set up on the south and south east side. Get as high as you can and good luck.

Around my house there is a patch i have been hunting that is about an acre and a half... i have house's on 2 sides of me, a river on one and a high way, but ill tell you what, the deer there think there safe...
i have been there about 6-7 times and seen 7 different bucks, small patches in neghibor hoods create great oppurtunitys

Seems like you do not have a lot of options being that there is an acre plus back there. I have 2.5 of woods to hunt and I throw out corn near a trail and give it a week or so. Get in a tree and you will see deer if they are traveling there! Get a good tree and play the wind right and if they are there you will see them!

Try not to spend too much more time scouting around if you plan on hunting it soon. You don't want to spook any potential bucks. If you have a trail camera try and set it up to see their movement paterns or just hunt it. I love to see a little sign and jump right in. The first hunt on a piece of property can be the most productive. Good luck!!!!

Take as much time off of work you can and hunt in your stand all day.. Ok, I know that is not realistic but I dream about it! Play the wind, find a tree and climb it. You will see deer!
