Anyone else finding dead/dying deer? Seems that there is a good bit of bluetongue (hemmorhagic fever) around. We had an outbreak 6 or 7 years ago here in Mech, now it's getting bad in Baden. A buddy told me he's been finding them dead around the farm, then yesterday, found a big 12 that couldn't get up. Then a fawn this morning. Outbreaks in SW Va, TN,PA,etc, as well. Come on FROST!

DaveP, what is the cause of the fever? It's spread by the bite of midges, not deer to deer contact. Maybe the drought has limited the water sources, concentrating the deer and midges? (I THINK they hatch out in water, but not sure) A good frost will kill them. Friend of my wife's said her husband was running his hounds in Aquasco over the weekend and found 6 dead. Most deer that get it recover, often getting screwed up looking hooves/feet. Seeems like it's killing a lot more than usual this time.At least I'm hearing about it more.
