Hey folks,
I just wanted to get the word out to everyone about something I found EXTREMELY troubling. I use Rick's Place for all my deer processing. Been going there for a couple years now and have never and I mean never had anything but quality work and products from them. I took 2 deer to them last Monday for processing and got the call it was ready to pick up last night. I went down during their NEW hours (I will breach this soon) and paid for my deer processing. Told Rick's wife "see you next time" and she says "Yeah I hope we are still open" This stopped me in my tracks and I ask what she was talking about.. So grab a seat and bear with me......
It seems the Charles County Commissioners office is doing EVERYTHING in their power to shut Rick's down. Apparently someone that lives on the road where the shop (detached from his home and located at the same address) has complained that Rick's has been doing illegal stuff, had animals hanging from the trees, and to quote Rick's wife it was said they had a RIVER OF BLOOD RUNNING INTO THE ZEKIAH SWAMP WATERSHED. All of this, of course, could not be further from the truth. Rick's is a professional business that is regulated by the STATE and the FDA for his work and facility. So for the last year they have been dragged into court hearing after court hearing and spent between 25-30 K dollars to fight to stay open and helping the community... Not only does Rick's process deer but also cows, goats, pigs ETC... He is a PROFESSIONAL his shop is IMMACULATE and this guy doing the complaining has it out for him and a criminal record as long as my arms.. The county has said directly to Rick and his wife that they are running an illegal business by not having their land zoned for COMMERCIAL building, since they run a business there. One major problem comes in that Rick has been at this location for over 10 years doing this work, never had a complaint by the state or FDA. Yet the Commissioners office wants to tell them NOW they are running an illegal business. When it was brought up that they have been operating there for 10 years and why NOW is it a problem they were told "well someone complained about it so now we have to shut you down." Seems a bit fishy to me and everyone else involved. State and County has no problem collecting their tax money and all that stuff but now because ONE person made a complaint the Commissioners office want to make an example out of them and close them down for what seems to be a vendetta and not because they are doing something wrong. One person can make a complaint and affect THOUSANDS of people. One person who maybe doesn't like Rick's Place or their owners can make FALSE accusations and try to get them shut down for NO REASON other than spite and we are supposed to sit here and take it. They have changed thier hours to avoid and kids getting off the buses seeing people drive in with dead animals as to not offend anyone which I find ridiculous.
I have seen Rick's Place do countless things to help the community and the people that support him. I picked my deer up from his shop last night and in their freezer there must have been 30 boxes of processed meat for FHFH (Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry) that he has processed. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen him GIVE a processed deer of his own to someone in need, seen or heard of him letting people on hard times pick up their processed animal and "JUST PAY ME WHEN YOU CAN OR JUST LET THEM HAVE IT" this is the type of people we as a community and hunters around Maryland need to support and help in HIS time of need.. He is a selfless individual that helps thousands of people with his work and support of FHFH and this one person is trying to shut him down with falsehoods and accusations that are not only UNTRUE but blatant LIES..
I ask that all of you spread the word to your hunting friends and family, anyone you know that benefits from FHFH and let them know what is going on in The Charles County Commissioners office. Make a phone call and show your support. Watch in the papers in the next while for the OPEN HEARING that will take place and spread the word we need hunters and supporters there for RICKS PLACE and get the word out. We as a community should not sit by and idly watch as one person can negatively affect thousands because he dislikes a person or operation for whatever reason. We need to flood the phones and the court room when this goes down to show our support for ONE OF OUR OWN who is in a battle to not only save his shop but his way of life and the support for his family... Please make a call to the County Commissioners office please watch out for the flier in the paper for the court date and spread the word we need you there to show support for one of our BROTHERS and his family.. We need to support the greater good here and finally set up to these people that make these false accusations and tell them we will not stand by and let this happen to a good man and his family any more. These bullies need to be put in place and they need to know we are there as hunters and a community to support of brothers. Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you for your support.
