What phase does everyone think it is in? I had just been seeing little bucks dead on the side of the road, but Friday night, 11/18/11 I saw a more mature deer dead on the the side of the road and later on almost hit a bruiser. He was on a trot, nose to the ground the whole time.
This could be one hell of a gun season....

Went hunting with HUNTER Friday and saw one real nice buck locked up with a doe. Lots of smaller bucks in that general area and though he was not running them off he certainly was not allowing the lil guys to get to close to his gal... I was able to call a 3 point and 4 point right into my set up though. Pretty neat watching them look for the "deer" that made the noise they heard...

I wanted to ask this same question! I feel like I don't have a valid answer based on my own experiences because the farm I have spent 05% of my time on, I have not seen hardly any deer from October to now. My two friends hunted the same farm last Saturday December 10th and all hell broke lose! They saw a total of 47 deer and there was a mix of big and small bucks running does everywhere! On a side note: My friends neighbor hit a BIG 4+ year old buck this past sat in the am. He called sheriff, tagged it and I am making a euro mount for him. I am hearing from very seasoned hunters that it is going to be an awesome gun season! I don't know what to expect because this is the first time I will be hunting a property that will have pressure all around it. Kinda wish I was back to the places with no pressure! I need deer though so I am about quantity not quality! Good luck to everyone!

I think it'll be a pretty good gun season. Out last night had a doe walk in with someone following her. Turned out to be a pretty 8 point that bedded down 30 yards from my stand in thick cover, just watching the doe feed for about an hour. Then he stood up and started hissing/wheezing at something else walking up the hill, couldn't see. Turned out to be an ugly 12 point that I saw 2 weeks ago, has had a nasty curled leg from a car or bad shot a couple years back, so naturally he was marked for death. The doe and the 8 left and the ugly 12 walked in and lost his life. That doe must have been gettin hot cause the bucks were around but they weren't really excited about her. This rut has been absolutly terrible for me, I think the weather has been delaying it or it's just trickling in real slow.

Not ugly to me. I'd say he has character. ;D Awww, that sounds like something Big Fox's momma would say. ;D I don't know what to think down here, the peak of movement and good bucks for me was back Nov 5-7, haven't been seeing much since, either hunting or along the roads. Warm weather has really hurt it though. Opening day is supposed to be sunny and near 70, don't like that. Was talking with my taxidermist earlier today and he said how much the weather was hurting things, too. Warm days his shop door doesn't open, on those few cold days people poured in with bucks.

Have spent a LOT of time on the road last couple weeks, and some, but not near enough, in the woods.
Saw most bucks on the move week of Nov 5 thru 12, then it slowed WAY down.

yeah... i don't know. One of the plots I hunt saw a lot of activity about two weeks...now it looks like a ghost town. Coming home in the evening I haven't seen any deer on the sides of the road moving around. last month and the beginning of this month, i was driving slower than molasses to miss 'em.
so i don't know. it's also been pretty warm too.

I was talking with a buddy of mine and he and I think things have slowed down the last two weeks. Never seemed like the rut got hot and heavy where I hunt. I saw active scrapes just after the early black powder season but now they have been covered in leaves for a couple of weeks. Kind of get the feeling when we get a cold snap it may trigger some hormones. Hope it happens this weekend.
