I would like to buy a trail cam. I have heard that if you use a flash, you can scare the bucks away for several days. Infrared cameras are a lot more. I am definitley going to get a digital camera. You guys have any suggestions?

Hey Brett, that flash thing spooking bucks away for days is bad information. I have pictures of bucks and raccoons standing beside each other eating and looking at the camera with 3 to 4 frames. Each frame is a minute apart. If that buck was spooked by the flash he would have left town after the first frame!!! I have seen many pictures of bucks small and BIG taken off trailcams at night under flash with repetative frames.
Now certain times of the season when bucks are on the edge they can be spooked easily by anything and disappear for a few days from that area. Like any mammal conditioning goes a long ways as well. I set up 3 or 4 camera around my 80 acre piece starting early in August or even late July, if you want to get a glimpse of your bachelor groups. I always set one up over bait to help with conditioning plus my family wants to see pictures fast.
Obivously a camera with no visiable flash, Flash in the IR, is always better. I plan on getting one for this next season. I think it would be alot better on the scouting end. Putting that camera in that bucks hall way and getting pictures without his knowledge is the best way to really set yourself up for a great hunt.
I use Stealth Cam and Moultrie. I have the same problem as everyone else has with my digital Moultrie. I haven't had one problem with my Stealth Cam. My buddy has a Cuddy Back but they are very expensive, but it is a great camera. I am going to get Stealth Cams IR camera this summer. I am putting money away now as I get it.
Sorry this is long winded but I have been using cameras for a while and its like a different kind of hunting. I use my cameras to scout for the bucks and set up on when I find them, after all thats what they were designed for.
