I didn't feel like hunting this past Saturday (1/11) but I was bored since there was no football on TV so I decided to take a little hike. I threw the camera in my pack just in case there was something interesting to photograph. I hiked back into an area of public land where I had had a ground blind set up in a blowdown, and when I got there, I figured I'd sit awhile. I was dressed more for walking than sitting and I knew I wouldn't be able to sit long, but as it turned out, I didn't have to sit long. I was there for about 20 minutes, watching a couple of squirrels chase each other around when I heard some deer coming my way. I was still fishing my camera out of the pack when out stepped this guy, as well as a little 6-point. I was hoping to get some good photos of him, but unfortunately, he picked me off when I raised the camera. I was only able to get this one shot, just as he turned to leave. Real nice deer - big barrel chest with a nice big neck despite having gone through the rut. It was a real pleasure to see one like him so late in the season and in such good shape. Attachments:
