The first week of November is when I always see/kill a buck! Since my first one went down on Oct 2nd this one is my bonus buck. Gave my friend my magic spot where I killed two nice bucks and seen 2 other nice bucks all in two years. I went in a small neck of woods near the main road and a driveway. I have seen doe cross here but had never seen a buck in this area. Anything can happen during the rut! My buddy was late and I took a new stand in and it was very awkward climbing and I felt I made a lot of noise and got set up late.
I got settled in and did not make a noise or have out any scent. Squirrels were everywhere and my head was spinning cause they were snapping sticks and I thought they were deer. I always felt stupid when I think a deer is a squirrel which happens maybe once everytime I am in the woods. I heard leaves crunch and a snap towards the driveway and knew it was a deer! I turned and saw antlers so i stood up and got ready before I made the decision to shoot or not. I watched him for about 5 seconds when I started fighting in my head whether or not to take this deer. He was walking behind me and I started to turn to get a better look when he turned and started coming right to my tree. I could not believe that he was walking right to me. Right when I decided that I was going to take him, cause he was mature, wide and had a cool kicker, he stopped directly under me. His nose was to the ground and i realized that he had stopped where I set my gear bag on the ground! I knew this was going to have to be it. I made a straight down shot and the arrow entered just to the left of his spine and exited on the right side of the sternum. He ran 40 yards and crashed! It was a very exciting hunt!
THE PIC BELOW IS THE DEER FROM OCT.2ND. THEY ARE VERY SIMILAR!
