I live in Charles County and am an avid bowhunter, I'm interested in learning how to sika hunt, any tips/info would be helpful. If anyone knows of a good spot on public land i guess that would help too. Thank you!

Lots of good hunting at Blackwater refuge and the public areas over there in Cambridge. Go online and search Blackwater or Fishing Bay and there is lots of public access spots. Some you would need a boat to access but others you can walk in. Get yourself some good hips boots or waders and a therma cell and find a marsh that you can get on and just get in a tree. The folls at Balckwater can point you in some good directions but the biggest thing is finding a spot alot of people are not going to walk to or get a boat over there and hutn some of the secluded places. Make sure someone knows where you are too in case you get lost in the PHRAG.. good luck. I would recommend gun hunting the areas a few times first before you try and wing a bow hunt. Need to learn what to watch for and where to hunt and sometimes getting the better distance in a gun can give you a better chance of getting one. Good luck and fell free to ask questions.

Blackwater is full for the gun and MZ hunts, those are by permit only, although you can still get bow permits. BW can be tough because there is no off season scouting, and no boat access allowed there either. That said, pick an area and spend the late bow season scouting/hunting it, you'll learn a lot. All the southern most tracts are mainly sika.
FIshing Bay and Taylors Island WMA's are good, and those are spots a boat really helps. The Chesapeake Forest tracts south of Rt 50 are great, too. Ideally, when I want to learn a new area I hit mid-week of gun season, carry the shotgun and buckshot, scout and try to jump something...
