Taking my son out for youth season, but, we have not decided on a location yet. Would be nice to take any deer, but a good buck would be even nicer ;D
So, what public area would you recommend we go for the youth day? Why?
If you don't want to reveal your favorite spot online, please send a private message.
Thanks.

I have heard Chapel Point Park has always held some good deer and I have a friend that hunts there and usually get a nice buck off that property every year. You may have to get in there early and walk to a remote spot to avoid other people but that area has some good oppurtunities if you can put in the leg work. Also they have opened up a few new areas for public hunting you can find on the MD DNR page that should be good.. good luck.

Check the MD DNR website like Fox said and I'll second Chapel point. Try some of the state forests (Doncaster, etc too). I've seen a few of 'em hanging out there. Good luck!

thanks for the responses so far.
Also, I have both the hunting guide and have been on the website. While I am aware of many of the available public lands, I was more curious as to people suggestions under the circumstances.
most of our time is spent hunting public lands in mont co. while there is plenty of quantity, we were hoping for a chance at better quality and a change of pace.

I have seen a Ton of deer at Chapel Point. I am strictly a meat hunter so I haven't seen many big ones. Its always first come first serve for me. Indian Creek also has a ton of deer and some very nice Bucks. I have friends That have seen nice deer at both locations. Its cool to be a horn hunter I respect those guys patience, but I have mouths to feed. Not a sermon, just a thought.

I hear ya smw. I would consider myself a "deer hunter" , normally I take the first good shot. I just figured with the timing of the hunt, selecting a spot that might hold a nice rutting buck would be a nice icing on the cake.

Well good luck with your hunting and I hope the good Lord see's it best to bless you with the excperiance you are after. I know there has been a nice 8 point that has been spotted in the swamp at indian creek that I have heard would score 150's, but you know how those storys go " it was the biggest buck I have ever seen" and its a spike.

^^^hahaha. I doubt that we will be holding out for a MONSTER BUCK. If a deer gives him a clean shot, I think he should take it. I just figured if we were going to sit somewhere we may as well sit where we may get lucky. I guess it is kinda like playing the mega lottery rather than a pick 3 game. While you may win more often with the pick 3 game, you don't win as big.

Chapel point and Doncaster are both excellent. Lots of deer at chapel point and I know this for sure! Enter very early like stated above and get back in there a good ways. You can always move during day time! My friend has a lot of luck still hunting in there!
