Yeah, I don't think it will last. Probably hack it up and feed it to the chickens...

This was my first year planting a garden. I tilled and pulled weeds and grass for over 20 hours before planting. I also spent a lot of time pulling grass that grew up after plants were planted. Any tips on how to take care of all the grass for next year? My garden is about 40 yards by 40 yards and I am by myself on this task. Thanks for any help!

Round-up & a roto tiller. The roundup will get rid of most weeds to get you a good start. The tiller will help keep the ground loose so the weeds don`t get established. Mulching with straw seems to cut down on weeds and adds green manure to the soil. I would also plant a fall cover crop of kale or turnips , covers the garden to keep it from eroding, cheap to plant, good to eat, till it under in the spring. Good Luck !

Getting the weeds early makes it easier....Keeps them from getting established like deerehunter said. Only realy way I know to get rid of all of them is to put in the time pulling.

Mulch, mulch, mulch! Use straw or grass clippings, really helps cut down on the weeds and preserve soil moisture. Can also use shredded newspaper or black sheet mulch, but I just use the bagger on the lawnmower and mulch heavy with grass clippings.
If you don't want to plant real early crops, you can also cover the garden with a sheet of clear plastic for a few weeks when it first gets warm and sunny, it will cook many of the weed seeds and bugs, almost sterilizes it.

As soon as roundup dries it's okay to work on, but if you're trying to kill the weeds with it I'd wait a week until they cook off a bit. The mulch goes on the ground around your garden plants next year, for a cover crop you'll just want to till, spread seed, work it in and let it grow for the winter. I use a mix of red and white clover and annual rye.
Really, if you till it well before a fall/winter cover crop there's not much reason to spray the roundup, you'll kill the current weeds by tilling.
