Well, after a month long running battle I finally killed the bird that's been giving me fits. Was after this bird on a farm up by Tuckahoe, he's flown down away from me, ignored me, changed roosts on me, dissapeared, come back, about every way a Tom can piss ya off. He's the one I almost killed last week, but that took off when he saw the sun glint off my glasses. Today his luck ran out! ;D Gobbled well off his normal roost, I was where I needed to be, along a small sand ridge where he always seemed to pitch to off the roost, and I had better cover and a full head net. He landed only 20 yards from me, but on the other side of the ridge and it was just high enough I couldnt' see him. He gobbled twice, then moved down away from me, crossed the ridge at 35 yrds and looked toward me with the sun at his back again. Hard to pick him out in the rays of sunrise, but centered on his head and BOOM, I don't think he even quivered! 22lbs, 10.5" beard, 1/1/4" & 1 3/8" spurs. And no, it wasn't with the smootbore flinter, after a few hunts I knew I needed every advantage I could get so I had the 870. Tagged out now, on to fishing...

Great job Dave, congrats! I know you wanted to bloody the fowler, but hey, there's always next season.
I haven't hardly been out since my first, and then, been trying to get my daughter on one.

Thanks guys! Dave, yeah, I wanted to use it, but wanted to kill some birds more I guess. Did learn some things about hunting with the smoothy that will help me next year, so it's all good. Guess she'll have to lose her virginity on sika with some of those .648 round balls.

Congrats on the turkey Osprey. Thats a nice looking Bird. Had a little late season success myself. This bird flew within 75 yards of me when he left the roost. I made one calling sequence, he responded and came right in to a comfortable 45 yards and I put him down. He was 19 pounds just a touch over 1" spurs and a 10" beard. I took him with a Browning Gold 10 gauge. Very enjoyable hunt.
