YEARS ago I foolishly tried to canoe a section of the Patapsco. Started just upstream from I95 and tried to go to Baltimore Harbor! Was actually pretty cool going UNDER 95, 195, 695,295,etc. Caught an incredible variety of fish, from stripers to all sorts of sunfish, perch, cats, etc, but there were TONS of big carp there. Problem was, LONG stretches were VERY shallow, as in had to get out and pull canoe, and carp dosal fins stuck out when they rushed away from us thru shallow stretches. The water was low, clear, and the carp were skittish!
Made it all the way to a series of ponds (Belle Grove) and they were loaded with big carp-caught crappie, pickeral, etc as well. Turned around, as it was getting late and fought current ALL the way back.Made for a LONG day.
Don't know how things are these days, or if you can do it legally, but I think you could bushwhack some big carp up there in shallow water.
Also were TONS of shopping carts and newspaper boxes (the big ones that hold papers/take money) dumped near every overpass.
LOTS of wildlife along it's banks, for an urban area.
At the time I kept thinking it would be a cool place to bowfish
