Well after a very unsucessful hunt 2 weeks ago the guide offered for my new buddy Mike and myself to come back up anytime this season and hunt some more for free. How can you pass that offer up? Well we couldn't so we waited a week to let the temps drop some more and headed up for another 15 hour drive one way to hunt for 2 more days. We left Thursday night after work and arrived at the guides shop at about 5 am Friday. After a nice power nap and talking with the guides, we decided where we were heading to standing in the parking lot as the rain and wind was howling. I pulled out my climber and got to the freshly baited site about 2 pm, got set up and the rain poured. At about 6:30pm it seemed to settle down with rain and wind and calmed down to peace and quiet. At about 6:45 pm i hear a branch snap and I just knew it had to be a bear coming my way i froze in the stand and just waited. A minute or two passed and like ghosts there is 3 decent bears standing at the bait. I almost crapped myself. I am slowly turning the rifle to get into position to shoot and deciding which one would be mine when all the sudden they started acting funny and a much larger bear appears out of no where and walks past the barrel making it disappear. I knew which bear i wanted. As the bear approached the bait and growled at the others, did I mention I almost crapped my pants again? any who, the others scattered and I took aim. Firing the bear lurched forward and spun around. disappearing into the dark woods and was gone in a flash. I called the guide and waited what seemed to be forever. Finally he arrives with Mike and after a short 40 yard track the bear was mine.. Here are a few picks... WHOOOOOOOOOOO
Not a monster bear but I am so proud of it and thrilled to have a chance to go again after such a disappointing first trip. I love it when a plan comes together. 5 feet from nose to tail and live weight of about 260lbs... Look forward to the beautiful Rug that will be arriving within the next 6 months to a year..
