Each year a borage of new products hit the shelves of our local hunting retailers. Paired with elaborate marketing schemes, I often believe the creators of the latest and greatest are actually after the biggest turkeys of them all, US! What, if anything new, is going into your turkey vests this year? To get the ball rolling has anybody seen or purchased the new A-Way Turkey Skinz? What do you think?

We have them at the MAGNUM FIELDS SHOWROOM and use them on all of our guided hunts. They work great and are really durable. We've been using the same ones for 3 years now and theyre still holding up strong. I highly recommend them, they have lead to many taken gobblers. Check them the website at www.magnumfields.com or come by the shop this weekend and see them for yourself! Were at the corner of Centineal and St. Mary's in LaPlata, MD in the bottom of the Bolton Building. Just look for the MAGNUM FIELDS truck!

Betcha didn't think it'd be that quick to have your point proven, huh NY? Like they say, fishing lures are designed to catch fishermen more than fish. Any of the stuff will work at times, sometimes you don't need more than a call and one shell. I don't have anything on the list special for this spring, but I'll probably get another call at some point. I really want a new turkey gun, but I won't have it built until fall at the earliest.

No doubt Osprey I think I may even succumb to this one. I’ll be going to Western New York for the first five days this year. I’m taking a buddy that has never killed a Gobbler and will also be calling for my dad. The pressure is on me and I think this might help spruce up a decoy in the field. I normally use at least two decoys anymore but I can only swing one set of Skinz. I guess I’ll have to settle for a lone hen, though, that’s all I used a couple of years ago and it worked fine then. This brings up the next review: Anybody using or thinking about buying Full Strutting deeks? I have seen and read the reviews. A couple of years ago, B-Mobile was the king, now there are several to choose from. I am going somewhere with this, I promise! What do you guys think?

I've never used them, but I have thought about it. I think the whole idea of a strutting bird would really piss that big tom off.
Last year I just had a jake standing in a field with a hen and he came up and kicked off... I think a strutting bird may have made him keep kicking it. ;D

The full strut decoys work good during the right conditions. We only use them on our hunts if we know there is a bigger bird in the area than the decoy. Younger birds or smaller gobblers can become intimidated by the bigger bird. Also, we recommend that you only use them in open areas such as fields, open bottoms, or logging roads. Thats just our opinon though. All in all theyre great when used effectively. www.magnumfields.com

Wondering why you would recommend only using them in those open areas - to eliminate spooking them??

I've used the B Mobile for a few seasons, works well and it's great fun. Never had a bird spook off it, if they've seen it they've come in. Had a kid out two seasons ago, late into the season, and two big Toms came in and kicked the crap out of the decoy. If you're worried about spooking smaller gobblers just set it up with a jake tail.

I say open areas for visibility as well as that is just where we have had the best luck with them. usually you see the big toms strutting in the fields and open areas over the thicker woods and all. not saying that they dont strut in the heavy cover, but in the fields and such they like their presence to be known. i do agree with osprey though when it works it works great. I would also recommend using the real feathers fan with it instead of the silk fan. they both work, but it's the same principle as the turkey skinz, the more realistic they look the better they work.

I just bought the 535 turkey a few months ago. Yes, it does kick like a mule.

Bought some new mouth calls and really want to get a new friction call. Not enough money for anything else but would LOVE to have two sets of skins and a full strut B-mobile! Got some woods that have open areas where they will strut!

Oh, I've got a new gun to use this spring! Not technically new, my Grandpop's old Model 12. Full choke, took a few geese with it this year, think I'll take it turkey hunting, he never did any of that. Be neat to take a Tom in his memory with it.
