Badlands of North Dakota, between Killdeer and the north unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, borders the Three Affiliated Tribes Reservation.

Sight we all love to see at dusk, passed him at 15 yards before I took the pic... And a little boy that gave me tons of pics out of the Jeep window, close as 10 yards... And just wait, it gets much better...

I'm so jealous. Their rearend resembles a sika a bit. Do they flare them when they run? I'd take that 3x3 in a heartbeat. And by the way anywhere named killdeer, has got to be the place to hunt.

When I was growing up in Oregon we used to hunt central OR near John Day. On any given afternoon you could shoot ducks, geese, 5-6 different species of upland game, cottontails and be covered in Mulies.

So why'd you leave Oregon for MD?!?!?!?!?!
Never seen them flare rump patches like sika, but they pogo off in that same bounce. At least in mulies that trait is called stotting.

This one was at 90 yards or so, but I'd already tagged out that year... ...and this one was at 70 yards on the range finder, probably should have gone after him in hindsight, he's bigger than I thought at the time... ...and I passed this one at 20 yards last winter, was holding out for something really big last year...(don't worry, you won't be dissapointed when I get to the kill shots )

Great pictures. Did you get any mounted? They look a little bigger than an average whitetail. How do they compare on the table for dinner?

From a little to quite a bit bigger. Don't know exact weights, but we figured the last two I took to be 250 field dressed. All three I took got mounted, I'll get to those after I string you along for a few days. Tablewise not as good as whitetails, but okay. Loins and straps are pretty good, most of the rest I make burger or sausage, of course I've only been eating the old rutty ones lately. About ten years ago I took a doe in Idaho, and that meat was very good.

Oregon was a long time ago. Uncle Sam saw fit to move me around the globe for about 16 years and MD is apparently where the merry-go-round stopped.
