....from last week. Man said "I got a problem......" . What an understatement. Looked like something out of Mississippi. Lots of work here: Wheelbarrow was full that day.... I love catching these things but that is where the love affair stops. One of em, the biggest, I bet was 60 lbs.

"Some Eastern Shore Beaver....." Not the pictures I was expecting. LOL. That looks like a great catch. I've skinned a few beavers and they are lots of work. How many traps did you set and how many days did it take to catch all of them?

That is one night out of a little better than 2 doz. traps. Beaver and muskrats are 2 animals that when you set for them you are better off killing as many as you can first couple nights as they get "nervey" from human disturbance or seeing others in traps...the result is the same. They go home and stay there spooked. Since I was trying to get rid of the problem I set everything I had with me at that time. Note the notched up tails on some of the big ones....they do it each other as a result of population pressure in a confined area. Hardly ever see that here.

Dave....I was lucky with these. 2 track down one side of the branch I was able to drive and farmer had a quad and picked em up on the other. All I had to do was get them to the top of the bank. That alone was enough. Not to mention skinning the damn things.
Fox....fur market is not established yet due to the crap going on the financial mkts all over the world. There are 53 or 54 million (with an M) ranch mink floating around on the markets with little or no bids not to mention all the ranch foxes. Some buyers in the country are speculating but they are all over the place and real low as a rule. My buyer wouldn't even put a price on em yet. Told me to wait a while. Guess I will have time to put these up. Years past I have gotten 17-19 dollar avg. on green beaver.

FYI:
Those beaver brought $8.00 avg. Red foxes avg. me $9.00 this year. Fur mkt. is really in the tank and looking even worse for coons. Lots of fur still in cold storage waiting for somebody to make a bid, any bid on it.
Dave: your Grey Foxes enjoying their Canadian vacation ?

I think they've taken up permament residency! I had them getting up in the mid $40s. Then only a few sold in the May '08 auction, but into upper $40s ( WISH I sent sent them all in for the March one!) Had a few move PT , mid 20s, then NOTHING since. And like you said, I suspect they won't for a while. At least until the firesale. ( I went from having $$$ in my eyes, to $$, to HOPING for $, now I'm thinking $.01s!!!) And I'm embarrassed to even say what the few coons that sold brought.Don't think my ave would even let me fill up off of McD's value menu! I was very curious about the Tman post, regarding the growth of ranched fur sales over the last decade. FOlks are buying fur, it just ain't ours! See you in Lima!
