I can't wait till my son is old enough to go!! I could not shoot a single deer that year and have him get a 40lb doe and my entire year would be a success. Good luck to you and your daughter! I hope you both will stay safe and get a good look and even a shot at this deer! Please let us know how it goes!!

MAGICAL....Persistance and Patience pays off. Drive to woods in down pour arriving just in time for a let up in the deluge. Decision time, hunt the hot stand where the trail cam pics came from or stay dry in a tent I had set up along a field edge. Daughter wants shot a THE ONE on pics...off to the stand we go. No sooner get situated (5:45) when the skies open up again. Put up umbrella and decide to stick it out. Driving rain for first hour. Here is how the rest of the day went... 7:10 A.M - HERE HE COMES, the trail cam buck walking head down straight toward us. Be patient, the shootings good and getting better. Gets about 40 yards out and decides to check upper field for the ladies, right turn up the hill he goes. Daughter following him in scope, he's staying behind cover and does not present a good shot stopping once (about 100 yards out) facing directly away from us...NO SHOT...DISSAPOINTMENT 8:00 A.M. - Mature doe comes busting along opposite hillside, no doubt will have a trailer. Right on time, mature 8 on the chase. Bleat, Bleat, Grunt...nothing stopping him. Daughter follows him in scope, NO SHOT AT FAST MOVING TARGET...SADNESS 8:25 A.M. - Small spike comes in behind us presenting a 25 yard broadside shot, she's not having it, waiting out a big one. 10:15 A.M. - THIS CAN'T BE, ANOTHER mature shooter 8 on same trail as earlier doe and buck. Steady gait, nose down...bleat, bleat, bleat...no stopping him, knows exactly what he wants..BLEAT, BLEAT, BLEAT...HE STOPS, RIGHT BETWEEN 2 TREES. Only thing we can see is GUT...NO SHOT...HOW AM I GOING TO KEEP HER TOGETHER! 11:00 A.M. - Bigger spike presents 40 yard broadside shot...still no go...she wants a mature deer...How does she do it, she has yet to have even taken her first deer and yet see has resisted taking a bad shot at 3 wall hangers and is passing on smaller bucks. Damn I proud of her, better than some of the grown men I have hunted with. Noon - Belly alarm going off...she wants to stay...I do the dad thing and off to lunch we go. 2:00 P.M. - Decision time again. Stay with the hot stand or try the tent where I have been seeing allot of does. She wants to go to the stand (who could blame her) but with the threat of rain again and knowing the does would make there way to the field (find the does and the bucks will be there), I overrule and its off to the tent. 3:00 P.M. - Does making there way to the field, fellas sure to follow soon. Only problem is, they are coming out to the left and right of us just out of range. Sure enough the action starts. For the next 2 hours a steady stream of does and possible suiters including another mature 8 and probably the most unique deer I have ever seen. Dark coated decent 8 with a white face and chest. One small brown spot on face and chocolate colored head gear. My daughter quickly names him CHOCOLATE. The ladies are keeping them just out of range and all of them run AWAY from us when the chase is on. I know it's killing her, but she looks at me with this big smile and says "Dad, this is exciting" SHE"S HOOKED!!! 5:00 P.M. - FINALLY, a mature doe comes into the field and feeds right in front of us. She's a little antsy and keeps checking the wood line beside us. My daughter decides she'll take her first deer. I tell her to wait, the doe was not going anywhere and her boyfriend may show up. Minutes pass, time is running out, light fading fast. THERE HE COMES...35 yards, broadside, no obstructions, his mind and his eyes on the lady feeding. RELAX, FIND YOUR TARGET, SQUEEZE THE TRIGGER. BAM -- 75 yards later he piles up in the middle of the field. Without a doubt the greatest hunting moment ever (along with my sons youth day successes, 2 wall hangers). She put in her work for this one. MAGICAL...HER PERSISTENCE AND PATIENCE PAID OF BIG TIME. Not only a trophy, but a memory to last a life time. I'll take some daytime pictures tomorrow from the taxidermist and post them at that time. Thanks for letting me share and I hope you all experience something like this with your sons and daughters.

Man, that is AWESOME! Congrats to your daughter, and to you Sir, for taking the time to introduce her to our way of life! And you're right: she showed more patience, perserverance, and maturity than most adults I know.I'm glad it paid off for you both. And thanks for the detailed write up: felt like I was there!
Her smile in the first pic says it all! Congrats to you both.I'm sure it's something you'll both share and cherish for the rest of your days.

Wow! Awesome story! I was with my youngest brother when he took his first deer. I got the whole thing on video. I'll never forget that day.
Patience plays such a huge role in hunting, seems that your daughter has that one down. Congratulations to you both! Beautiful buck! What an exciting day!!

Thanks for all your kind words, she could not be happier. First deer on her last youth day hunt! Like Brett has said, it would not matter if I ever scored on a deer like this one or the one my son shot on his last youth day (which I am trying to upload a picture of). To share experiences like this with both of my children and pass along this great tradition (hunting), I just do not see it getting any better. My dad shared them with me and I am passing it on. I truly hope every mom/dad, who takes there kids hunting, experience something along this line. As promised, daytime pic of the proud dad and his amazing daughter!
