:)Last Friday had some hens and a jake sneak in to the decoys, but couldn,t get a shot. We reset up but nothing. We started to head back to where we originally set up earlier, doing some yelping every 100 yards or so. Nothing happened. wHEN WE GOT BACK TO OUR SPOT AT 9:30 AM, out of the blue a GOBBLE roared out!!!!! I quickly dropped back 75 yards from my nephew and began calling. Emediately 1,2 and 3 differant gobbles rang out !! Then bang!! My nephew got his 1st turkey, I ENDED UP CALLING IN 8 JAKES!!! What an exciting moment. Don,t ever give up even if you can,t seem to roost any birds . Does anyone else have crazy stories like that?? Oh yah, by the way that was buxupinyas 1st turkey!!

I would call what you experienced that day a great tactic. My Bro-in-law and I were working a bird on an opening morning in NY. I was calling and he was the trigger man. The gobbler was a long ways out across posted property, answering our calls but just not coming in. Suddenly, a Jake came in, let out one gobble (if you can call it that) and my bro shot him! Now he’s calling and I’m shooting but the big gobbler still wouldn’t come in.
We decided to leave the decoys set up in the woods, walk back to the house to keep the Jake cool, and grab a quick breakfast. We were gone for about one hour and made it back near our decoys (about 50yds from our tree base). My bro hit a box call and was cut off by a close gobble. We literally ran for our spot and made it without getting caught. I ended up shooting that bird a few minutes later, all 22lbs of him.
