On April 5, 2008 we in the shooting and hunting world lost a true friend ,Charlton Heston .He died at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife of 64 years at his side .He was NRA president from June 1988 thru April 2003 . When he left the NRA he said to his senior staff that "it was quite a ride" and that "he loved every minute of it". President George Bush awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom our nation`s highest civilian honor . Quite a guy.

My favorite line of his was when referring to Bill Clinton, he said:
"America doesn't trust you with our 21-year-old daughters, and we sure, Lord, don't trust you with our guns."
Well, that and, "Get your stinking paws off of me, you damn dirty ape!" from Planet of the Apes!
Funny how all the liberals have been blasting him, but he was VERY active in civil rights stuff in the from the late 50s and through the 1960s. To the point that he was getting death threats. Very little coverage of that this morning. They can't see past the gun. He considered our right to keep and bear arms a basic, CIVIL right.
A class act, who spoke his mind, damn the cost. We are poorer as a nation today. Rest in peace Mr. Heston.
