It brings great saddness to post this thread. My father's best friend Roger Deam, Meyersdale PA, fell from his tree stand this morning during the first day of buck. He punctured his lungs with 2 ribs and died due to the trauma. Those of you that are as guilty as I am with not wearing a safety harness..... I say no more. Please let this be a lesson for you as it is for me. I would appreciate any of you that would offer up any thoughts and prayers for the Deam family. Thanks guys and gals and please stay safe in the woods

Will do. That's one of my fears. And yet, I STILL rarely wear one. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

We sometimes forget how dangerous an activity hunting is. Most outdoor sports rarely result in death, but it seems many hunting related accidents do. Whether it is falling from a treestand or an accidental shooting, many die each year while hunting.
I rarely wear a harness, but hope this inspires at least one person to. Thanks for bringing this to our attention Brett, sorry for the loss.

Terrible shame! His family is in my prayers. I for one have never been comfortable on ladders, even short ones. So when I use my climber the harness goes on, up, in and down. Probably the most dangerous stands are the nailed to the tree ones where they have been there for years. Anyone remember the original climber by Baker took one of them up about 15 feet and then down, really fast when it did not lock. Talk about tree hugging.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I wish there was an easy way to get guys to wear harnesses. I always have but most of my friends and family don't. Maybe at the expo we can set up a fall demonstration. I'll be the test dummy. It could show guys how easy they are to use and maybe get some to start wearing them. Just an idea.

There's a guy out of Charles county who does treestand safety demos. He's done a few for 4H, etc, and is GOOD! I can't think of his name, but I can track him down if need be.
