Does anyone have any suggestions on bows? I am about to buy my first bow in a couple months.

I say for a first bow PSE has some good quality without a hefty price. The new ones have the the technology of all the high end bows with out some of the bells and whistles. Or go used. I saw a few in the classified section. They looked set up already too. Even with an inexpensive new bow, after the rest, sight, quiver, etc. It adds up quick.

I would go to someone who knows how to fit you properly for the bow. It is very important to have the correct draw length. It may cost a bit more, but I'd go to a pro-shop, rather than Wallyworld for the first one. That way you'll know your correct draw length. Maybe go there & come here & ask more ?'s before you buy.

Most bows are pretty good and shoot well nowadays, go to a shop with a range and try some. They all feel a little different, get something that you feel comfortable shooting, drawing and releasing. Most shops will have used bows on hand for sale, too.

I would also stay away from big retailers like Gander Mountain, D i c k ' s, or Bass Pro. They might have a lot of selection but a tech working for $8/hr is going to be far less personable than a tech working at a pro shop. Usually, the pro shop owner is the one setting you up, if not, it is somebody close to the owner. At any rate, I think you would be much better off going to a pro shop. Also, don't be afraid to haggle a little. Some bow prices might be a little fixed but I'm sure you could get a few extras thrown in for free or little cost by shopping small. Good luck.
