Hate to tell everyone, but just in time for sika season we've got skeeters!! Saltmarshes got some big tides and started putting off last week, had 'em 45-60 a minute at Bespitch boat ramp, worse farther out on the marshes and southern county. Rains should start giving us a few freshwater skeeters, too, if we get more this week like they're calling for. Was canoeing last weekend on the Chicamacomico and that loud humming sound was coming out of the swamps for the first half hour around daybreak - always one of the joyous sounds of early fall on the Shore.

I hadn't been bit this summer until the recent rains. Now they are every where even on the western side.

I was hoping that it would be a light year for them...guess that hope is gone!
What's the most you've ever recorded per minute?

What's the most you've ever recorded per minute? Personally around 130-140 a minute, you end up breathing them in at that rate. Highest for our crew is over 200/minute, although it's hard to be accurate when it's like that, you're guestimating 10-15 per hand smack when they get thick like that!

I couldn't imagine. What are some good repellents to use when not hunting. It seems my family must taste sweet to skeeters, they get tore up when they are bad. They don't seem to bother me though???
