What happened was the arrow passed completely through the gar. Just the string was through, when I pulled it up the arrow was still completley out, and when it thrashed all of a sudden the scales cut the line. The fish and the arrow hit the water. Found the arrow but the fish got away. In the second picture the arrow is not connected to the string anymore at all. The line had already been cut, faster than I could even look up.
Lesson learned: When taking pictures DON"T hold the fish over the edge of the boat!

This is the STRANGEst gar! I have lost an arrow on an estimated 60# alligator gar in May, on Texoma Lake. The 130# cheapo p.o.s. line parted like a gossamer. The longnose are by far easiest fish for me to shoot, and I thought foolishly that carp are easier to hit, not so. Where is the body of water in question Hardcorehunter? Very nice pictures, I have been taught by experience to follow the following procedure: shoot, bring in, gaff, deliver cranial adjustment, stick a short hook under the jaw, get pictures.

You'll REMEMBER this fish moreso than if it was like all the rest. Great pics too.

I shot him out of marshall hall. It was a good shot but clean pass threw. The scales were just too sharp for the line when it started thrashing. If I had pulled the arrow threw but not undid the release head he wouldn't have gone anywhere. Carp are more of a challenge in more book as well. Real flighty and mostly lurking at the bottom, except when spawning. I really want to go alligator gar bowfishing! Its in my top five animals to hunt in the USA list.
We usually shoot, pull on boat, take picture, throw in boat and watch where you step, especially barefooted. ;D

Told you to use my fuel line gar stopper. I have never lost a gar due to that in 21 years.
