First day turkeys 1, Osprey 0. Man, people were everywhere. Went back to the same area I took the kid on youth day, passed two guys walking in the trail in the dark (are people that scared of the dark that they need a 5 million power flashlight to walk a logging trail in the dark that even a blind bat like me can see by a sliver of moonlight on a cloudy morning?!?!). Heard a few gobbles at daybreak, not many, and a 1/4 mile from where they were the other day. Heard at least two more guys get between me and the birds, calling like mad. After it got light had another guy drive across the private field nearby, park and walk in and set up 50 yards from me (did I sound that much like a hen??? C'mon!). Had a red fox come by at 30 yards, almost shot him but it was still early (hmmm, a Fox, I'm wondering if there's some sort of omen in this ). Guy behind me finally got up an hour later, walked back to his truck and I heard him drive off. Finally decided later to check out some other areas, walking the logging trails on the way out I walked next to one pop-up blind set right on the main trail with 3 decoys out and past three other hunters who were neither more than 10 feet off the trail, sitting against trees. Don't get too far off the roads fellas, you might get lost or something... I'll be glad to see it rain tomorrow, maybe some will stay home.

Maybe they thought the turkey made the roads? ;D I think it being opening day had something to do with it too. I'll be going every weekday until I get my 2 birds. I'm going to leave the weekends for fishing when my buddies don't have to work. ;D ;D ;D

I always try to save Saturdays for my own place, that way I know I won't have to deal with the crowds those days. I hate to think what Saturday will be like after seeing it today. C'mon warm weather, hatch those skeeters!!!

Gotta love the mass marketing of hunting. With Gander Mountain and D i c k s opening on the shore recently I think we will continue to see more hunter in every venue.
