Most of you guys are close enough it's a short trip for you, thought some might be interested so I'll pass along the press release... Turkey Season Tips from Tracy Groves,
RedHead Field Staff Pro,
Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World - Baltimore
The April 18 season opener for Maryland’s Eastern Wild Turkey gobblers is only weeks away.
Turkey pro, Tracy Groves has already tried on his turkey vest, made sure all the calls are close at hand to reduce any movements and has been practicing his calls.
His first choice to begin the season is the RedHead RTX slate call that was introduced before the 2006 season. Tracy bagged a big double-bearded gobbler last season and owes some of that success to the enticing hen calls that can be reproduced on the RTX slate.
According to Tracy, “This call is easy to learn how to use and is very effective. I would choose a harder wood striker like the Primos Kee-Kee Striker to operate this call. You can create any call from a soft purr to the sound of an excited hen cutting. The RTX will be in my hand on Opening Day.”
Tracy Groves and other pros will be on hand with new products, calling demonstrations and Q&A for Turkey Weekend at Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, Baltimore; Saturday and Sunday, March 31 and April 1. Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World is located at Arundel Mills, just off Route 100 Exit 10 near Hanover, Maryland. There is no charge for the activities. Visit www.basspro.com for details

Bag a Boss Gobbler… Learn to Talk Turkey with Tips from the Pros
Turkey Weekend at Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World; March 30-31 and April 1
Hanover, MD - On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 30, 31 and April 1, novices and veteran turkey chasers stand to learn a few new tricks from the flock of professionals assembled at Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, Baltimore.
Turkey Weekend features informative seminars, one-on-one discussions, Q&A sessions and the latest turkey-related products from leading manufacturers.
The Eastern wild turkey gobbler possesses all the natural instincts to avoid coming in contact with humans, even camouflaged ones, invading his domain.
Unlike the whitetail, he has little need to use his sense of smell. He sees objects in color and instinctively equates any movement with danger. His hearing is phenomenal.
In spring, tom turkey’s attention is diverted by the ladies. His booming gobble echoes through the woodlands as he calls his harem together to breed and continue the cycle of life. This is his vulnerable time.
To take advantage of his amorous mood, hunters take to the woods and fields armed with an assortment of calls. Whether the calls are made of wood, slate, glass or latex, the intent is the same - to fool the gobbler by enticing him to seek out a comely hen.
As a sneak preview to Turkey Weekend, on Friday, March 30 from 4 to 7 p.m., Tracy Groves, our RedHead Field Staff Pro will be in the hunting department to demonstrate turkey calls and answer questions. Tracy is consistently successful on spring longbeards. If you’ve never heard Tracy call or talk about locating gobblers, you should. As a bonus, this turkey veteran will share tips on videotaping your gobbler pursuit. Some of these tips could mean the difference between your successful hunt and ‘see you next year’!
Saturday is the big day.
11 a.m. - Tracy Groves, using both diaphragm and friction calls, along with Kevin Smith on the box call will teach anyone interested how to ‘run’ a turkey call.
