Well me and my boy Dylan went over to the lease yesterday. The stags were bugling like crazy all morning and I tried to call us one over. I got a response at one point followed by a shot from one of the other members. I think I may have called the deer into his shooting lane a few hundred yards away. Any way we hunted all morning and didn't see any deer. It was a long morning and I felt bad for the kid. We broke for lunch about noon and one of the club member had seen 7 stags to include a nice little 6 point he shot. After lunch I was talking with the club member and he offered to have Dylan sit with him in case another stag was to come out. I took him up on it thinking this guy has the best spot on the lease and Dylan is sure to see a deer with him. I head out to my stand about 215 to get Dylan a couple things out of the stand. Get him squared away and he heads back to the parking area to go out with the other guy. I get settled in for the afternoon.. About 240pm I happen to look up and out of no where there is a stag standing in my shooting lane. I cannot believe it and I am heart broken Dylan is not with me. I take aim and fire my muzzle loader. He drops. I can't believe the luck and the chances of Dylan being gone less than 30 minutes and this happening. I am thankful for the deer but would have much rather Dylan had the chance. As it goes, Dylan didn't see anything with the other guy. It is the way it goes and if I had it to do again I would send Dylan with him again with the thinking he had a much better chance at seeing deer and having a chance than I did on that day. Stinks but I am still grateful.
