Anybody get out today? I went just to take the dog, he's been watching me go deer hunting every day and he was so excited to jump in the boat and go duck hunting I thought he was going to have an orgajism! A few puddlers flying early, but between the full moon, bright sun and dish calm water it was done by shooting time. Nice to sit in the marsh again though! Have been seeing some big flocks of swans pushing through already, which bodes well for the next few weeks. Talked to a guy today that saw some scaup already, too.

Hard to get me out of the treestand this time of year for ducks...I usually hit them hard in January.

Had to go just sit on the point this morning for a bit and see if this cold front did anything. Buffies and ruddies have started to show up, may have to rig up for the morning and get the dog some work tomorrow! Certainly felt like duck season out there - cold wind, leaden cloudy skies, choppy slate colored waters. Deer? What deer?

Today definitely felt more like duck season. May go on Thanksgiving or the day after.

Got out this morning, although when I saw the skies would be clearing I didn't expect much (always seems to be the slowest for me when it's been cloudy/stormy and then clears out, even when the wind picks up). Did manage to scratch down a few buffies and get the dog wet. Cold, cold morning for mid-November, so came in and started the woodstove. Nothing like the scent of steaming dog fur on a cold ducking day as the lab curls up in front of the stove.

Got out yesterday afternoon for a quick hunt with a buddy down at his place in the big marshes. Fun afternoon, we ended up with a good shoot on mallards and greenwings, last cold front definitely brought some new birds in for his spot. He's also the guy I got my lab Puck from, he had along one of Puck's yellow sisters - was like hunting with family!

Tried to go out Saturday morning but ran into boat issues with my buddies rig.. Towed it back home and after 4 of us watched youtube videos and a few hours later we changed the water pump impeller and got her back up and running for like 65$. Headed out to meet up with a couple other friends for the afternoon shoot and while it was slow I was able to kill a nice widgeon and a ruddy.. They had a good hunt that morning with a couple shovelers, mallards, widgeon, and a goose or two...
Looking forward to Thursday morning and then it is deer hunting for 3 days straight..
