Well what a great finish to a weekend.. Started out meeting up with Hunter for the first part of the BLAST AND CAST Sunday morning at 5am. Gave it our best shot at trying to located and kill a mature turkey but those pesky buggers would not cooperate and we didn't have much luck.. Hunted hard and gave it our best but the birds were just not talking that morning.. After meeting up with my family and a friends crew in LaPlata, we had a nice late breakfast and then headed to meet up with my cousin for a nice afternoon on the Bay for ROCKFISH.. got out on the water around 130-2pm and were trolling, along with 7000 other boats.. Listening to the chatter on the radio it looked like the fishing was hard on such a beautiful day. We hit the water on a slack tide and were just trolling around waiting for the tide to shift.. Not much after the tide shifted we had a nice pull down.. I grabbed the rod and my son Dylan got on the reel.. Worked his butt to exhaustion and changed him out for my younger son Austin.. He gave it his all and had to be replaced by my cousins son Peyton.. The boys tripled on a great first ROCKFISH (38.5 inches) a first ROCKFISH for any of them and we had a great fish in the boat.. After getting the rods set back out it wasn't long before I noticed one of the rods hooked to the planner board line was acting funny.. I grabbed the rod and could tell we had a fish on it but it had not release the line from the clip. I gave a good pull, released the line and handed the rod to my cousin Jason so he could pull in his first ever rockfish, a nice 29.5 incher.. So my wife was up next and after about 25 minutes I noticed once again the rod was acting crazy on the planner. I jumped up and grabbed the rod and could tell there was a fish on it.. Had my wife come down to the back of the boat and I released the line from the clip and handed it over. You would have thought she was reeling in a blue marlin but the wife stuck it out and we had fish #3 in the boat.. 26.5 inches and after a quick picture he was back in the bay to grow up a bit more.. trolled for about 3.5 hours and caught 2 keepers and one throw back.. Better than a lot of head boats out there according to the radio.. What a fantastic SUNDAY Blast and CAST day...
