My brother-in-law, Shaun, traveled to our house on the Eastern Shore from western New York for three days of hunting over the weekend. We hunted hard Thursday and Friday with little gobbling. We woke Saturday to light rain and wind but still headed out. We heard a distant gobble on the roost and closed the distance within 200 yds. A swamp prevented the bird from closing. At 0730 we turned to my Android smart phone with the GPS satellite image to see where the bird was and where he was headed. We could see there was a clear cut on the other side of the swamp so we decided to hike out, drive around the block and attack from the other side. We made it to the other side by 0830. I got him gobbling again at 0900. We closed in, above the bird, toward the clear cut within 35yds. This was one of those "Call specific birds". He did not answer when I went to a diaphragm. I tried waiting him out but he seamed to respond better to constant calling. I coaxed him in the last 75yds with constant clucks and purrs on the box. At 1000, Shaun smoked him a 35yd shot. 2 year old bird weighing 18lbs, 9.5" beard and 3/4" spurs. It was a true pleasure to completely guide my bro-in-law as he was my turkey teacher nearly 20 years ago! This was his first out-of-state turkey and on Public Land! i123.photobucket.com/albums/o306/nybuckstalker/DSC06948.jpg[/IMG]
