Here is my story of yesterdays kill. Walked 50 yards from our parking spot and two big birds flew off the roost early! I have never seen them roost there! My buddy and I walked in and set up despite getting busted. Sat for 45 minutes and never heard anything. Walked for almost two hours very slowly and never heard anything as we called. We walked for about 300 yards in one direction and called a little more aggresively. Nothing. We came to a stop and decided to sit there. i put in my mouth call which I had not used yet. I let in rip and heard what sounded like a half gobble. Almost like a cough. It sounded like it cam from in front of me but my friend said it sounded like it came from behind us. We sat so we covered the front... Well he came from behind us and was on my side. I really wanted my buddy to kill one so that he can concentrate using his bow next time. This bird was full strut most of the time. Was very cautious and silent. He got to behind a small tree and I could not get my gun around cause of a sapling right in front of me. He looked a little nervous when he walked out from behind the tree so I tried once more to slowly move my gun. He putted and was getting ready to run so I moved the gun up and around the sapling. He started to run so i took a head shot at about 25 yards. There was not a BB in the breast. All head and neck! I did not have ascale but I think he was close to 23-24lb, had a 10 inch beard and 1&3/8 inch spurs. They were the sharpest spurs I have ever seen!
