;D ;D Am I the only one excited anout trapping season opening on the 1st? I ran over a nice gray fox male tonight and like any good trapper loaded him into the car. One pelt and many to follow(hopefully) I will be trying for my first red fox this season. One of the only animals in MD I havn't trapped yet. Coyote, otter and fisher are the others.

I am interested too!! I have never been before, but can imagine the excitement when you approach the trap, not knowing what is in it..

i would like to hook up with you and go check your traps sometime. i use to trap alot when i was a kid. caught alot of foxes, grey and red, coons, oppossums, unfortunatly a few skunks. but it sure was fun. i would love to get back into it but think i would just prefer to get out a couple times with HARDCORE this year and get me out of the house and do some looking around. i sure miss those walks throught htre woods checking foot traps.. let me know if i can go with you sometime. you could even trap behind the house if you wanted to. have alot of foxes and coon back there..

That sounds cool. My favorite is beaver and muskrat, Muskrats are pretty easy, but beaver can be challenging. I just like using hipwaiters to set and check the traps. I only have a handful of traps i set today. I have to dye the rest this weekend. I'll let you know!

sharp blow to the head i bet. that way when you skin them there are no holes in the hide. makes them worth a bit more money...

That would be my guess too - I'd carry one of those little baseball bats!

I try to keep the skulls and hitting them on the back of the head is sure to shatter the skull. I bring a .22 and shoot em thru the lungs. Quick and humane. Head shots make bleed non stop and get all over the fur. I have heard of people injecting them with a syringe filled with acetone. But I'll stick to my way. This was my first gray fox trapped. Now i still need a red.
