Oh man, I'm sitting here on the day before the late duck split opens and I can hardly take it! Windy, cloudy, snow flurries, watching out the window at ducks trading on the river, geese going insane over the nearby fields, I don't know if I can stand it until they open back up this week.

Looking forward to it as well. Just think, Puck will have a few new smells to explore in a few weeks.
I bet he's growing like weeds, no?

Yeah, he's growing and learning new stuff every day. Coming along pretty good.
But duck season was damn short. Even with 20 knot winds the river froze all the way across at my place last night, 700-800 yards of open water that was 2' whitecaps yesterday. Still got geese around the fields, but no ducks when this hits here. Only hope is that it will open up late and I'll be covered up with cans and bills like last year...

Hmmm, sort of mentioned that a couple post back, eh?
Days of strong NW wind here blew ALL the water out, then froze up tight. Hopefully, high tide will make up enough at end of week, that can go out and break open a hole.

I can't wait til tomorrow. Been trapped in the office all week and I'm itching to get out. Hope I've got to break ice. When I break ice I usually kill ducks.

Mmmm, just had mallard breast, doused with Worcestershire and seasoned salt, broiled at 500F for a couple minutes each side, served over a bed of wild rice, with cornbread.
Tastes like MORE!
